Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

SPCC Teachers have an important responsibility to both teach and minister in their gifts so that children and young people receive an excellent education with holistic foundations, embedded in Christian values, for the whole of life. This will be done in close collaboration with the school executive and strict compliance with Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, relevant syllabus, policy and procedures, while upholding the mission and values of the College.

This position is expected to commence in January 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver effective learning and teaching programs which demonstrate:
    • clear alignment with Biblical principles and sound doctrine
    • strong subject knowledge
    • current educational research
    • well-developed practice
    • capacity for student engagement
    • consistency with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, relevant NESA syllabus, policy and procedural documents, and to the ‘SPCC Whole of Life Framework' to enhance and strengthen students’ learning habits
    • effective collaboration in team planning and/or team teaching
  • Conduct various pastoral care and welfare duties which include but not limited to the following:
    • Share devotions and pray with students.
    • Support the spiritual, physical, social, emotional well-being, and safety of students by building safe, supportive, and respectful in various settings.
    • Respond to pastoral care issues efficiently and in a timely manner, which may include offering relevant support to families in need.
    • Conduct and attend parent interviews regarding students with additional and/or behavioural needs.
    • Create supportive learning environments that cater to all student learning needs and manage behaviour effectively, in accordance with College policies and procedures (Ex: proper wearing of school uniform).
    • Assist in the diligent coordination and supervision of students during regular school activities and/or special events in and outside the campus grounds such as playground time, camps, services, excursions and the like.
  • Oversee, execute and manage the day-to-day administrative and operational needs of the College in an efficient and effective manner. These include the following:
    • Assess and record student progress carefully and appropriately, and provide timely feedback to students while actively engaging them in the learning process.
    • Maintain accurate student attendance records.
    • Prepare, review and present relevant reports, documents to various stakeholders.
    • Identify, assess and appropriately manage risks associated with planned learning activities in accordance with College policies and procedures and relevant WHS regulations.
    • Where possible, ensure that learning can continue if unavoidable absence occurs, by providing appropriate lesson plans for colleagues.
    • Attend weekly staff meetings and after school events as required.
  • Attend to and comply with any other reasonable direction that is within the limits of the Teacher's skills, competence, training and/or experience as given by the Supervisor and/or Principal.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • A committed Christian who is actively involved in their local evangelical Christian church and who is overt and allows for discussion and prayer about matters of faith as they relate to the teacher’s professional and personal journey.
  • A clear and well-articulated understanding of what it means to be a Christian teacher.
  • Primary Teaching qualifications and experience.
  • Able to utilise technology efficiently and proactive in developing IT skills.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Leadership opportunity:
