Job Description

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Casual Teachers are responsible for delivering the curriculum material provided for the class and to provide a duty of care to students in the absence of the regular teacher. This main responsibility is to be fulfilled in a manner which is consistent with the values and expectations of St Philip’s Christian College.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Deliver subject matter prepared by the teacher they are standing in for, in a way that demonstrates :
    • clear alignment with biblical principles and sound doctrine
    • strong subject knowledge
    • current educational research
    • well-developed practices 
    • capacity for student engagement
    • consistency with the Australian Professional Standards for TEachers relevant syllabus, documents and policy and procedural documents
  2. Teach own pre-prepared learning activities when required.
  3. Develop a safe, positive and effective teaching and learning environment.; 
  4. Identify, assess and appropriately manage risks associated with planned learning activities in accordance with College policies and procedures and relevant WHS regulations.
  5. Maintain discipline in classrooms and other school areas in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  6. Supervise the playground and buses by attending to duties diligently .
  7. Mark student rolls promptly taking note of student learning needs and medical flags.
  8. Assist in the coordination of students for special events and variations to normal routine such as camps, services and excursions.
  9. Pray for students.
  10. Contribute to the provision of the spiritual, physical, social and emotional well-being and safety of students whilst at school.
  11. Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive school community by relating biblically toward students, colleagues, parents and other stakeholders.
  12. Report on student performance as required.
  13. Any other reasonable direction that is within the limits of your skills, competence, training and/or experience as given by your Principal or Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  1. Committed Christian who is actively involved in their local evangelical Christian church.
  2. Relevant teaching qualifications .
  3. A clear and well-articulated understanding of what it means to be a Christian teacher and ability to demonstrate a Christian worldview.
  4. Highly developed classroom management skills.
  5. Up to date curriculum knowledge.
  6. Highly developed problem-solving skills.
  7. Technological literacy and willingness to learn new technologies.
  8. Current Working with Children Check.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES:

  1. Ability to quickly establish rapport with students.
  2. High level ability to adapt teaching style to accommodate needs of students.
  3. Commitment to empowering all students to be effective learners.
  4. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and persevere when faced with challenge.
