Job Description

The Library Technician supports the daily operation of the school library by efficiently handling and maintaining digital and print resources, assisting students and staff in accessing information, and promoting a love of reading and learning. Working collaboratively with the Library Services team and classroom teachers, the role provides practical support to the teaching and learning needs of students by identifying and locating appropriate resources to complement units of study. The position helps maintain an engaging and inclusive library environment that reflects the school’s values, supports the curriculum, and fosters literacy, inquiry, and Information Literacy, all within established library systems and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical and resource support to Library Services Teachers, following established procedures.
  • Equip and assist staff and students to access and utilise Library resources.
  • Acquire, catalogue and maintain Library resources, including databases, subscription services, print material and digital resources, in accordance with established Library procedures and standards.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Library Management System (Oliver) and associated digital information systems (Wheelers eBooks/ClickView/LearnPath) under the guidance and direction of the Lead Educator of Library.
  • Provide informed assistance in sourcing and referencing relevant resources in a range of mediums, applying established guidelines.
  • Conduct stocktake of print resources at the direction of the Lead Educator of Library Services.
  • Manage the borrowing, returning and shelving of Library resources.
  • Conduct Library orientation sessions as directed, to support classroom teachers.
  • Promote and encourage a love of reading  through Library displays, lunch activities and other initiatives as directed by the Library Services team.
  • Operate the Library Services “help desk” to provide welcoming customer-focused support, guidance and referral.
  • Supervise groups of students within the Library space in accordance with school and Library procedures.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Committed Christian who is actively involved in their local evangelical Christian church.
  • A clear and well-articulated understanding of the role of Christian Education and significance of being a Christian staff member.
  • Qualifications and experience as a Library Technician.
  • Current practical knowledge of Library and Information Services.
  • Flexibility in managing a range of routine and technical tasks throughout the day.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to contribute positively to the Library Services team, supporting innovative and forward-thinking practice.
  • Ability to foster a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
  • A current Working with Children Check.
