Job Description
The Ministry Chaplain provides spiritual guidance, counselling and support to students within the school community. The role also involves fostering a positive school experience that promotes and supports student wellbeing, through facilitating student events, programs, services and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the Ministry Team, contribute to the planning and leading of Chapel Services and other special events throughout the year.
Develop, plan and lead student programs and initiatives that support the social, emotional and spiritual development of students.
Provide Chaplaincy support to students who are experiencing challenges and difficult circumstances.
Respond to the pastoral needs of students, staff and the community in a manner which best reflects the Gospel convictions of the School.
Work alongside the Assistant Heads of School and Year Group Lead Educators, to provide wellbeing support for students.
Ensure adequate notes are recorded and kept confidential for all student meetings.
Create opportunities for students to develop their Christian faith (discipleship groups, Bible study, etc).
Provide prayer opportunities for students, staff and parents.
Desired Skills and Experience
Committed Christian who is actively involved in their local evangelical Christian church.
The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a team or autonomously when required.
Previous experience in a school setting as a spiritual mentor to staff and students from 5 – 18 years of age.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and support students, with an understanding of the key challenges they face.
A chaplaincy qualification or relevant vocational or tertiary qualification, or be working towards the same.
Previous experience assisting in the coordination of Chapel services that enable students to grow in their relationship with Christ and with one another.
Experience leading Bible study groups and equipping students to lead services and discipleship groups.
Previous experience writing and presenting devotions for students and staff, and be an effective communicator.
Have experience working with families of students who are at-risk, with the aim of supporting them emotionally and spiritually, knowing when to refer them to a qualified, external support person.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and the broader community, both in small and large settings.
