St Philip's Christian College Dynamic Learning offers a tailored learning program for children and young individuals diagnosed with Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, and/or Autism (Level 1 & 2). Job Description
FOCUS OF THIS POSITION
The Lead Educator – VET is responsible for the leadership and management of Vocational Education and Training (VET) and related post-school transition programs. This role involves overseeing the development and maintenance of high-quality teaching and learning programs, including scope and sequence and assessment, while ensuring compliance with NESA and RTO requirements across all campuses delivering VET courses. The Lead Educator provides effective direction and guidance to teachers in all matters of curriculum, assessment, and reporting, relevant to the specific stages of student development. They are expected to work closely with the Director of Studies and Heads of Campus to engage meaningfully with students and parents to promote, organise, and administer both internal and external VET courses and work placements.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Curriculum:
Ensuring the highest educational standards are established within the department by:
Maintaining and modelling appropriate teaching methods
Coordinating student assessment procedures
Encouraging a climate of educational excellence
Providing opportunities for the implementation of positive changes
Fostering a love of learning amongst students
Model and promote innovative and evidence-informed teaching and learning practices
Liaising with other schools and relevant professional bodies
Ensuring the school meets NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and AISNSW RTO requirements by:
Regularly reading and acting on NESA news and updates
Implementing and maintaining curriculum prescriptions
Designing, reviewing and updating instructional programs
Ensuring teachers use AIS produced/approved assessment tasks for VET
Maintaining academic documentation as required for Registration and Accreditation including Scope & Sequences, Programs, Resource lists, Work samples and registers
Submitting assessment results and grades to the Director of Studies or delegate
Ensuring the school complies with AISNSW RTO Requirements annually including:
Supporting and monitoring the completion and filing of all student enrolment paperwork and Student Work placement documents and other paperwork by the due date
Monitoring and documenting VET teacher qualification, training requirements, PD log, industry visits and;
Student Work placement documents
Validating assessment and learner resources to meet training packages and industry requirements
Encouraging and participating in whole-school initiatives and professional development in areas such as:
Numeracy and literacy
Professional Learning Communities
Coordinating relevant educational excursions, incursions, visiting speakers and the like.
Contributing to modified programs that meet the individual needs of students
Facilitating safe learning environments through considering the resources and equipment appropriate to learner and syllabus expectations
Plan and facilitate work readiness programs for students, and support the delivery of vocational education and training
Parents and School Community Liaison:
Marketing the subjects/courses as per the guidelines provided by AISNSW RTO including updating and reviewing all marketing materials
Promoting learning in VET through sharing particular achievements of students within the school
Student Progress, Wellbeing and Reporting
Advising students about the VET courses available at Dynamic Learning College including regular review of subject descriptions for VET courses.
Overseeing the assessment within the department including:
Planning and implementing student assessment tasks and competencies in accordance with NESA, RTO and College expectations.
Contributing to secure recording of assessment and competency results for all students in all courses in the department.
Ensuring students are provided with meaningful and timely feedback to promote learning.
Facilitating pilot-marking of common assessments with the VET team.
Ensuring the validity of formal assessment tasks, including enacting procedures for the response to malpractice in assessment
Management and Staffing
Being a professional and positive leader to promote harmony within the department and support of the Dynamic Learning College’s Leadership Teams.
Liaising closely with the Director of Studies in monitoring progress within the department
Providing leadership and encouragement of staff in the department. Achieving this by:
Organising and chairing regular faculty meetings
Providing regular communication and feedback to staff
Encouraging staff and participation in professional development
Providing effective support of young and new staff
Implementing clear departmental policies and procedures.
Dealing efficiently with departmental administration
Overseeing the completion of staff checklists for VET Documentation for each cohort and maintain their professional development logs each term
Contributing towards conflict resolution, as required
Assist in delivering associated programs, services and events offered to students
Deputise, as required, for the Head of Campus
Forward Planning and Development
Attending Curriculum meetings and contributing to the strategic direction of the College
Setting and evaluating progress towards departmental goals, in consultation with teachers in the department, which align with College priorities and strategic direction. These may relate to:
Departmental priorities
Student academic performance
Implementation of new programs and initiatives
Maintaining a thorough knowledge of the courses within the department by:
Attending and participating in conferences run by subject-based professional bodies, network meetings and SPCC cross campus groups.
Acquiring and maintaining quality professional resources for teaching and learning and enhanced professional practice.
Reviewing student achievement data such as PAT test results and NAPLAN with the aim to review and improve processes and practices in the department to promote student learning.
