Job Description
What’s the focus of this position?
Provide high quality nursing care to students who are injured or unwell.
Specific responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
Manage, triage and co-ordinate administration of the first aid/medical needs of all students from K-12.
Provide high quality nursing care to students who are injured or unwell.
Be readily available and respond appropriately according to triaging priorities to pertinent requests for First Aid assistance.
Communicate with parents/carers as required via the appropriate communication channels.
Exhibit confidence and give reassurance to parents/carers.
Effectively manage students’ chronic illness as it relates to their schooling required to encourage better health outcomes.
Provide information and support to staff to confidently manage students’ medical conditions and injuries.
Be engaged with the Wellbeing Team to encourage a holistic approach to mental illness. This includes submitting referrals to the Wellbeing Team as required.
Coordinate annual staff vaccinations with authorised provider.
Update student medical information according to record keeping procedures.
Ensure medications and action plans are up-to-date, liaising with parents/carers as required.
Administer daily prescribed medications and over the counter medications to students and oversees the maintenance of an accurate medication register, including keeping an accurate weekly drug count. Ensure administration is recorded in TASS.
Communicate effectively with Sub School Receptionists regarding ongoing management of students presenting to sub school offices in a manner that prioritises student care, being mindful of the operations of the Health Centre and the effective functioning of each Sub School.
Triage students and log Health Centre attendance, ensuring medical notes are recorded in TASS.
Ensure mandatory reporting obligations are reported to the Principal/Deputy Principal as required.
Maintain confidentiality of health conditions with a need-to-know approach.
Ensure accident/incident reports are filled out accurately.
Check student medications for camps prior to departure when advised by Health Centre Administration support.
Assist in the preparation of medical supplies and medications for excursions and camps ensuring excursion/camp bags are available in a timely manner when required.
Ensure first aid kits, excursion bags and duty bags are well stocked and supplies are in date.
Ensure defibrillators are checked regularly and are in good working order with in-date batteries.
Undertake regular stocktaking and order medical supplies as needed.
Assist in medical policy and procedure development when required.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
Hold a minimum qualification of a Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent qualification.
Maintain Nursing registration.
Demonstrates a high level interpersonal skills, accurate and consistent communication skills, effective collaboration, and effective conflict resolution skills and strategies.
Excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of products and a willingness to embrace new technologies.
